Responsible Tourism in India

In a nut shell, responsible tourism is that form of tourism initiatives and responsibilities which bring both tourists and travel agencies to maximize the positive impacts and minimize negative impacts on the environment, cultural heritage and traditions of the region.

Responsible tourism is a rapidly growing global trend. Some nations, like South Africa, the United Kingdom, United States, the Gambia, Sri Lanka and India has been practicing responsible tourism, and gradually to other nations following the ideologies of these countries.

India is an ample scope to the one for the tourist destination. Indian tourism industry has grown immensely over the past five years, and it is certain that in the coming years, India will be a hot tourist destination in Southeast Asia. In order to maintain this growth process is necessary that all stakeholders in the Indian tourism, say tour operators, government agencies and NGOs should work in cohesion. You must protect the heritage of the country which will benefit both local communities and tourists.

To develop India as a tourist destination is responsible for ICRT India stands for the International Centre for Tourism is responsible for working with the private sector, government and local communities. This is a Bangolore based non-profit organization, established in 2006 whose main aim is to "undertake the responsibility for sustainable tourism, and to live in better places for people and for people to visit." It provides policy advice, research and consultation in developing Responsible Tourism in India.

All Indian states, Kerala tourism to pioneering innovative practice. It is a condition that is rich in tradition and culture. It started on responsible tourism in the state to create awareness among all stakeholders for a better environment to live and visit. Kerala organized the second International Responsible Tourism Conference on March 21 - March 24. 2008.

Some successful projects in India for the tourist -

"Sunder Jungle Camp 'launched by Help Tourism Group to connect with the heritage and the livelihood of protected areas to local communities Sunder community-based, environmentally and socially responsible tourism.

"Awake and shine" is another successful project of responsible tourism. This project was launched to a retired Indian Army General "Jimmy" Singh in May 2006, the development Samthar Plateau near Kalimpong (40 km), depending on the catering holidays as a tourist destination, local handicrafts and other products. This project has contributed to the local community to improve the lifestyle of the region and that the signal from the Indian tourist map.
